Accommodation at Vergezient Lodge

Winter in the Drakensberg overlooking Mnweni Peaks.

For accommodation in the Northern Drakensberg, Vergezient Lodge is definitely worth visisting. It is my favourite dstination in the Northern Drakensberg and decided I would give you "my" version of a stay there.

Sunset in the Northern Drakensberg

Vergezient Lodge accommodation has that "Old Farmhouse" feel and look about it. The furniture varies from antique to new with picutes varying from the Boer War to birds and Thomas Baines. The living areas are large, with the entire front consisting of windows, making the most of the spectacular view of the Drakensberg. The view extends from The Amphitheatre in the Northern Drakensberg to Cathkin Peak in the Central Drakensberg. You overlook the whole Tugela Valley and get that feeling that you are at the top of the world and as one guest wrote "I lifted my hand, and touched the hand of God".

A number of fireplaces ensure a very comfortable stay regardless of those cold and windy Drakensberg days.

As you come into the Lodge you are surprised to find a grassed, flower-filled garden which remains like this throughout the year.

The accommodation consists of 10 en-suite rooms, each one varying in size and decor. The variety in size is due to the structure of the old shed that was converted into the existing Lodge.
There is a large indoor pool which gets very warm in summer. The smaller pool has not yet been heated.

There are a number of horses with foals that seem to do nothing but laze and graze. Apparently there was someone training them but he left so once again the horses are on a permanent holiday. They certainly add to the charm of the place.

The hospitality is warm and caring and should you be arriving late, don't be surprised if you get a call to find out if you are lost or on the right path.
The food is delicious, real home cooked meals, leaving you feeling really satisfied at the end of your day.

It is surprising how many people play board Games or do puzzles and the pleasure they get out of it. With Tv being the main form of home entertainment now, we forget the pleasure of doing things together at home. There is a TV with DSTV but generally only seems to be used if there is an important rugby or Cricket match on.

If you are looking for "Buzz", this may not be the place for you BUT if you enjoy peace and beauty, then I suggest you go there and stretch out you hand.
