There are a number of large dams in the Bergville area, namely Woodstock Dam, Spioenkop Dam and Sterkfontein Dam which is at the top of the pass which leads over the
Drakensberg
into the beautiful Province of KwaZulu Natal. This pass gives a spectacular view of the Northern Drakensberg.
Sterkfontein Dam boasts as the largest resevoir in the world. The water for this dam is taken from Woodstock dam and led via a canal to a small resevoir from where the water is pumped over the Drakensberg into Sterkfontein Dam. When there is a great demand for electricity, the water is allowed to flow back again over large urbines to produce Hydro electric power.
There are anumber of resorts, lodges, self-catering cottages and B&b,s in the surrounding area.
