River Rafting has become very popular in the Central Drakensberg and is often used as a team building exercise for conference groups. River Rafting is offered by a company called Four Rivers Rafting and Adventures. They are based on the R600 in the Champagne Valley of the Central Drakensberg. Although used a great deal by conference groups it is an ideal activity for holiday-makers wanting to experience all the Central Drakensberg has to offer as well as some adventure. Four Rivers Rafting and Adventure is a family based company that has been running for 5 years. By offering a quality product and a variety of activities, they have managed to grow and evolve into one of South Africa’s great Adventure based companies. Louis, Gill, Jackie and Adrian go out of their way to make your rafting adventure a wonderful experience. Jackie is South Africa’s women’s Freestyle Kayaking champion, having won the championships last year.

There are four rivers that are used, the Tugela River, the Mlambonjwa River, the Injasuthi River and the Bushman’s River, the Tugela being used most frequently. They offer one, two or 3-day packages. The Daily Rafting Trip will take about 3 hours, after which you have a braai and refreshments. This is a really sociable time with all chatting about their adrenaline rush experience. The trip consists of 45 minutes on flat water with only Grade 1 rapids (very small rapids). This is basically a teaching session, as most visitors have no river rafting experience. You learn how to control and steer the boats. Then you have a swimming practice to learn how to get into the boats. After that you get to the more serious part. You get into the gorge where there are a number of rapids - Grade3 / 4 and 5 rapids. Grade 5 is the biggest rapid allowed to be run commercially throughout the world. The Tugela has one of the greatest white water sections in South Africa ranging from Grade 1 – 5 with the odd portage around a commercially unrunable Grade 6. There are 2 Multi Day white water rafting trips, a 2 day 1 night trip and a 3 day 2 night trip. These are exclusive rafting trips with a minimum number of 6 people and a maximum number of twelve people. There is an experienced guide with you at all times. A safety talk is given to all participants before the trip and all safety equipment, is supplied by them. They carry a medical aid kit and cell phones with them at all times, and follow all the guidelines of the African Paddling Association. Transport, refreshments, meals and camping is included in the price.

This is a worthwhile and unforgettable experience. Take up the challenge and contact Gill or Jackie on 036 468 1693 or Email them - info@fourriversadventure.co.za

They also offer quad biking, off road carting, abseiling, archery and a zip line ( foofie slide).
