Drakensberg Golf and Accommodation

The Drakenberg – or the Berg as it is often refered to – is a must for all golf enthusiasts, offering courses with spectacular views and a variety of accommodation from camp sites, caravan parks, lodges, B&B’s and Guest Houses to Hotels. Although the Drakensberg is an extremely popular holiday destination it remains a place of beauty, tranquility and peace.

All courses are open to the public but it is best to phone in advance to confirm starting times. There are a number of golf courses, each one set in breathtaking scenery. Regardless if your score is not up to scratch, the mountain peaks and fresh air make for an enjoyable experience. The Northern Drakensberg offers one course at Hlalanathi, a 9 hole course. Accommodation is available at Hlalanathi. Further accommodation is listed below but my favourite place is Drakensberg Mountain Retreat. It has the most incredible view of the Drakensberg from Olivier’s Hoek Pass and the Amphitheatre right down to Champagne Castle in the Central Drakensberg. It is situated very high up, giving one the feeling of truly being on top of the world with endless space around one. It is also within easy travelling distance of Hlalanathi Golf Course.

Hlalanathi Golf Course

This 9 hole golf course is situated adjacent to the resort and overlooks the majestic Amphitheatre. Hlalanathi golf course is a challenging course and to have as little impact on the environment as possible, the growth of indigenous vegetation has been encouraged between the fairways and the water features have attracted a variety of local bird life. Golf rates 9 holes – R130 18 holes – R160 Carts 9 holes – R120 18 holes – R160 Clubs for hire – Deposit of R300 9 holes – R80 18 holes – R110

Cathedral Peak Golf Course

This 9 hole Drakensberg golf course is situated in the incredible setting and although not a championship test is an interesting course and worth playing. Although a 9 hole course, it offers alternate tees for an 18 hole game. Caddies and carts and clubs are available for hire. Club lunches, a bar and bar snacks are available at the hotel or the club Halfway House.

Champagne Sports Resort Golf Course

18 Hole Golf Course

This Drakensberg golf course is one of the most beautiful golf courses in South Africa. It is extremely well cared for and is appreciated by professionals and novices alike. As with all the golf courses in the Drakensberg, it has incredible views and although they may not improve your game, they certainly add enjoyment to it.

The clubhouse is situated close to the resort and also has a well stocked Pro shop with anything you may require. Light meals and drinks are also available.
