A variety of accommodation is available within Giant’s Castle Game Reserve in the Drakensberg as well as in the surrounding area for those who wish to enjoy the walks and hikes in Giant’s Castle Game Reserve..
If you do not want to stay in the Reserve where they offer self-catering cottages, a fully serviced lodge providing meals and 3 mountain huts then the Antbear is recommended for it’s wonderful hospitality, homely atmosphere, excellent food, sociable hosts and it’s proximity to the Reserve. Giant’s Castle Game Reserve has a variety of well mapped walking and hiking trails that vary in distance and difficulty allowing you to chose the walks or hikes suitable for you.
Preparing for extended hikes is vitally important due to the fact that the weather is unpredictable. Correct clothing, footware, hats and sunscreen are a must. Make sure you take a jacket even if the day is hot. Although there are many mountain streams, always carry water with you. For extended walks and hikes it is essential that you complete the Mountain Register.

1. Meander Hut to Skopongo Ridge, round trip 2.5 km. Beautiful views.
2. Main Cave via Durnford’s Camp 3 km. San paintings.
3. Champagne pools 4 km. Secluded pools ideal for swimming and trout fishing.
4. Bushman’s River walk, round trip 4,5 km. Picnic site.
5. Berg View, round trip, 5 km. Wonderful view.
6. Main Cave’s Forest 5 km. Beautiful forests, San paintings and a stream to cool off.
7. Grysbok Bush 8 km. Pools.
8. Bannerman’s Hut 18 km. Numerous streams.
9. Meander Hut to Giant’s Hut via Lotheni jeep track 11 km.
10. Meander Hut via Beacon Ridge, round trip 14 km.
11. World’s View round trip 14 km. Beautiful view of the escarpment and rivers below.
12. The Lakes, round trip 15 km. A series of waterfilled potholes and great view.
13. Contour Pathe and Langlibalele Path, round trip, 16 km.
14. Giant’s Hut to Bannerman’s Hut via Contour Path, one way 18 km.
15. Spare rib cave 6 km. A rock shelter near the top of the escarpment.
16. Bannerman’s 20 km. A steep ascent.
17. Giant’s Hut to Giant’s Castle Summit, round trip 19 km.
18. Ka-Langalibalele Pass, round trip, 27 km.
