Hiking VergezientVergezient Mountain Resort in the Northern Drakensberg offers spectacular hiking trails, views and very comfortable hiking accommodation.The Barnhouse as the hiking accommodation is called, sleeps 30 people and is electrified and as far as hiking accommodation goes is luxurious. The kitchen / dining room has a wood stove, a three ring gas stove, two refrigerators, a microwave oven and a variety of pots and cooking utensils. The kitchen/dining room leads onto an enormous verandah, which overlooks the entire Northern Drakensberg with it’s spectacular Amphitheatre. The view, together with comfortable chairs, tables and benches as well as the braai places at each end of the verandah, make this the favourite part of the house. A place to relax, socialise and talk about the wonderful walks and views experienced during the day. There are two bedrooms each with two double bunks, and interleading room with two beds and 2 attics with 20 comfortable mattresses. The ablutions comprise of 3 showers, 3 basins and 3 toilets. The hiking trails are professionaly set out with time spent walking in the open and then in wonderful natural bush and gorges with streams, a waterfall and even a cave with bushman paintings. The trails are well marked and vary in difficulty and length to suite a variety of hikers. Maps of all the walks are available with the various ratings and length. The hikes vary in length from one to ten hours. The weather here is unpredictable, sometimes wild but never dull. In winter the days can be bitterly cold but with a blazing fire the cold will be a welcome experience. Vergezient Mountain Resort is accessed from the R 74 tar road between Harrysmith and Bergville.
